Winter in July
It has been cold and wet in Melbourne....more so than normal. But we were in L.A and Las Vegas for five weeks of winter last year, so I suppose thats why winter seems to be dragging. I got some nice things on Ebay this week. An old 'Frederick's of Hollywood' catalogue of 50's underwear...very Bettie Page...and an original poster 40"x60" of 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane', one of my fave horror movies. Also yesterday , three bound volumes of 50's American Photoplay magazines arrived. This one is 1953 for example. I read these and pretend I'm there, back in the Golden Days of Hollywood. The December issue has glorious Marilyn Monroe on the cover, in a white fur, with a red and white striped back ground. The old ads are great, here is a full page one for 'How to Marry a Millionaire'. Here's a young Elizabeth Taylor doing a stocking ad, Rita Hayworth just married Dick Haymes, and Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner are still deliriously happy..lol...Here's an article on 'Bad Boys of Hollywood', and now the color Marilyn Monroe Pinup calendar for 1954. And an article entitled 'Up at Tab's Place' with lots of girls and guys in a convertible...as if. And yes...Tab is giving the boys more attention...ha. Great reading......
